An Act amending certain motor vehicle violations.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1.  Section 20A of chapter 90 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2012 Official Edition, is hereby amended by striking out, in lines 34 and 35, the words “the non-renewal of the license to drive and the registration of the registered owner” and inserting in place thereof the following words:- an increased fine.

SECTION 2.  The sixth paragraph of said section 20A of said chapter 90, as so appearing, is hereby amended by adding the following sentence:- If any person fails to appear in accordance with said notice, he or she shall be subject to an additional fine that shall not exceed $1000, and the matter shall be dismissed.

SECTION 3.  Said section 20 of said chapter 90, as so appearing, is hereby further amended by striking out the seventh and eighth paragraphs.  

SECTION 4.  Section 20A½ of chapter 90 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2012 Official Edition, is hereby amended by striking out, in lines 40 and 41, the words “the non-renewal of the license to drive and the registration of the registered owner” and inserting in place thereof the following words:- an increased fine.

SECTION 5.  Said section 20A½ of said chapter 90, as so appearing, is hereby further amended by striking out, in lines 77 and 78, the following words:- $55, if paid thereafter, but before the parking clerk reports to the registrar, as provided below and shall not exceed.

SECTION 6. The seventh paragraph of said section 20A½ of said chapter 90, as so appearing, is hereby amended by adding the following sentence:- If any person fails to appear in accordance with said notice, he or she shall be subject to an additional fine of no more than $1000, and the matter shall be dismissed.

SECTION 7.  Said section 20A½ of said chapter 90, as so appearing, is hereby further amended by striking out the eighth and ninth paragraphs.  

SECTION 8.  Section 20C of said chapter 90, as so appearing, is hereby amended by striking out the second to fifth sentences, inclusive.

SECTION 9.  Section 20E of said chapter 90, as so appearing, is hereby amended by striking out subsection (d).

SECTION 10.  Said chapter 90 is hereby further amended by striking out section 20H and inserting in place thereof the following section:-

Section 20H. If a person fails to appear in accordance with a notice to appear issued for a failure to pay or prepay the required toll on the Tobin Bridge, pursuant to a Massachusetts Port Authority regulation or fails to pay in a timely manner a fine issued pursuant to such regulations after having received notice thereof, the authority shall impose a fine of no more than $1000. The registrar shall prescribe the manner, form and content of any notice received from the authority to take such action.

SECTION 11.  The registrar of motor vehicles shall issue regulations to implement the requirements of this act.
