SECTION 1. Notwithstanding chapter 32 of the General Laws or any other general or special law to the contrary, Raymond A. Murphy, Jr. chief of the fire department of the town of Pelham may continue in service in the position of fire chief for the town of Pelham beyond the age of 65 until the date of his retirement or the date he is removed or suspended from office by the board of selectmen in accordance with applicable laws, rules, regulations; provided, however, that he remains physically and mentally capable of performing the duties of the position. In no event shall Raymond A. Murphy, Jr. remain in service as fire chief beyond the age of 70. If requested by the board of selectmen, Raymond A. Murphy, Jr. shall, at the town's expense, be examined by an impartial physician designated by the town to determine his capacity.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
