An Act relative to preliminary elections for certain offices in the city of Lawrence.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1. Section 8.3 of chapter 425 of the acts of 1983 is hereby amended by striking out paragraph (a) and inserting in place thereof the following paragraph:-

(a) Signature Requirements. The number of signatures of voters required to place the name of a candidate on the official ballot to be used at a preliminary election shall be as follows: for the office of the mayor not less than 250; for the office of councilor at large not less than 100; and for the office of district councilor or school committee member not less than 50 signatures of voters of the district from which the candidate seeks to be nominated. In no case shall a person collect signatures to be a candidate for more than 1 city office.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
