Nangle and others (with the approval of the city council) that the city of Lowell be authorized to appoint a fire chief for said city notwithstanding certain provisions of the civil service law.  Public Service.  [Local Approval Received.]

An Act exempting the position of fire chief in the City of Lowell from the civil service law.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

Section 1:  Not withstanding any general or special law to the contrary, the position of Fire Chief in the City of Lowell shall be exempt from chapter thirty-one of the General Laws.

Section 2: Nothing in section 1 shall impair the civil service status of any person holding the position of interim Fire Chief or a person holding the position of Fire Chief on a provisional basis in the City of Lowell on the effective date of this act.

Section 3:  This act shall take effect upon its passage.
