An Act establishing a personal finance, civic responsibility and general legal curriculum.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1. In order to better prepare and educate students in the areas of personal finance and the law so that they have the tools and skills necessary to make informed decisions, the department of education shall develop a curriculum encompassing all aspects of personal finances, including but not limited to, credit, mortgages, credit cards, and all other forms of debt, savings, interest, investments and other components of this subject; aspects of civics necessary to be a responsible citizen of the Commonwealth, including but not limited to voting and interacting with government; basic legal concepts that every citizen would reasonably encounter, including but not limited to civil rights, basic criminal, family and civil law, the role of attorneys, and basic contracts.  

SECTION 2. The department shall integrate this curriculum into existing high school social studies curriculums within 3 years of enactment.
