By Mr. Cantwell of Marshfield, a petition (accompanied by bill, House, No. 814) of James M. Cantwell and others for legislation to direct the Attorney General to provide for a study of the methodology used to promulgate new flood insurance rate maps through the National Flood Insurance Program.  Financial Services.

An Act relative to an investigation of flood insurance by the attorney general.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1: Section 11F of Chapter 12 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2012 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting, in line 6, after the word “insurance”, the following sentence:-“, and the National Flood Insurance Program”

SECTION 2: Section 11F of Chapter 12 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2012 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting at the end thereof the following:

“The Attorney General shall designate within the Insurance and Financial Services Division an Assistant Attorney General and such expert, clerical and other assistants as the work of the Division may require to review and to scrutinize the methodology used to promulgate new flood insurance rate maps through the National Flood Insurance Program and (b) the methodology used by insurance carriers to determine homeowner insurance rates. “
