An Act relative to hate crimes against police officers.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1.  Section 39 of chapter 265 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2014 Official Edition, is hereby amended by striking out, in lines 4 and 5, the words "or disability" and inserting in place thereof the following words:-disability or employment as a police officer.

SECTION 2.  Subsection (a) of said section 39 of said chapter 265 is hereby amended by adding the following sentence:-For the purposes of this section, the term "police officer" shall mean any officer of a municipal police department, the office of environmental law enforcement, the University of Massachusetts, the department of the state police or the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority police department.
