An Act relative to cyclist safety.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1. Section 2 of chapter 89 of General Laws, as appearing in the 2012 Official Edition, is hereby amended by striking, in the first paragraph, the second sentence and inserting in place thereof, the following:-

If it is not possible to overtake a bicycle or other vehicle at a distance of not less than three feet in the same lane, the overtaking vehicle shall use all or part of an adjacent lane if it is safe to do so or wait for an opportunity to overtake at a distance of not less than three feet.
