An Act relative to sight-seeing vehicle safety.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1.  Section 1 of chapter 90, as appearing in the 2014 Official Edition of the Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting the following definitions:-

“Amphibious Vehicle”, any motored vehicle that is designed to operate both on land and in the water including but not limited to those vehicles commonly referred to as DUKWs, LARCs, Stalwarts, hybrids and United States Coast Guard Certified Amphibians.

“Sight-Seeing Vehicle”, any motor vehicle used for the carrying, for a consideration, of persons for sight-seeing, touring or similar activities.

SECTION 2. Section 7 of chapter 90, as so appearing is hereby amended by adding the following paragraph at the end thereof:-

Every Amphibious Vehicle operating on the public ways must be equipped with blind spot cameras and proximity sensors conforming with such standards as the registrar may prescribe.

SECTION 3. Section 13 of chapter 90, as so appearing is hereby amended by inserting the following sentence at the end thereof:-

“No person, when operating a sight-seeing vehicle, shall at the same time provide a guide service, narrate history, identify landmarks, sights or otherwise provide entertainment or information.”

SECTION 4.  This act shall take effect on April 1, 2017.
