An Act to require authentic assessments of student achievement be used to ensure students are being taught more closely to levels within their personal zones of proximal development.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

SECTION 1. Section 1 of Chapter 69 of the General laws, as appearing in the 2014 Official Edition, is hereby amended by striking out item (4) and inserting in place thereof the following words:-

“(4) an effective mechanism for monitoring the actual progress of individual students’ mastery through the various learning standards, which mechanism seeks to identify, on an annual basis, the standards students likely have already mastered and those which they haven’t, for the purposes of ensuring all students’ authentic growth and continuous progress through the learning standards, for the purpose of identifying directly the actual learning needs of students, and of holding educators more accurately accountable through such authentic measure of students’ achievement and growth.”
