An Act to ensure that gifted and talented students are taught by appropriate educators.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1. Chapter 70 of the General Laws, as appearing in the Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting the following new section:-

Section 16. The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education shall establish a professional development program which will twenty hours of professional development in the specific field of educating gifted and talented students to educators across the Commonwealth.  Such professional development opportunities shall be required for any educators whose classrooms contain one or more students identified as gifted and talented, as determined by a school district or any other professional working in the field of psychology, gifted education or who regularly provide services of educational assessments.
