An Act establishing a moratorium for Commonwealth charter schools.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
SECTION 1. Chapter 71, Section 89, subsection (ii) of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2014 Official Edition, is hereby amended by striking in its entirety and replacing in place thereof the following:
"(ii) No teacher shall be hired by a commonwealth charter school who is not certified pursuant to Section 38G in accordance with all the rules and regulations of the board of elementary and secondary education.”
SECTION 2. Notwithstanding any general or special law to the contrary, the authority of the board of education to grant commonwealth charters to an applicant pursuant to section 89 of chapter 71 of the General Laws shall be suspended until September 1, 2018.
