An Act regulating preliminary elections in the city of Gloucester.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

The charter of the city of Gloucester, which is on file in the office of the archivist of the commonwealth, as provided in section 12 of chapter 43B of the General Laws, is hereby amended by striking out in section 8-1 City Elections: General and Preliminary the words "On the fifth Tuesday preceding every regular city election there shall be held a preliminary election for the purpose of nominating candidates." and inserting in place thereof the following sentence:— "Municipal preliminary elections shall be held no later than the sixth Tuesday preceding a regular or special municipal election with the date to be fixed for each preliminary election by a vote of the City Council which shall be taken no later than the sixtieth day before the date so fixed."
