An Act relative to parole eligibility.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1. Section 129D of Chapter 127, as it appears in the 2012 Edition of the General Laws, is hereby amended by striking “5” in line 14 and inserting in place thereof “10”;

and by striking “10” wherever it appears and inserting in place thereof “20”.

SECTION 2. Section 128 of Chapter 127, as so appearing, is hereby amended by adding the following sentence:-

Notwithstanding any general or special law to the contrary, the parole eligibility date for house of correction inmates shall be 1/3 of the total aggregate term of incarceration or two years, whichever is shorter.

SECTION 3. The parole board shall update its existing regulations and promulgate any new regulations necessary in accordance with this act.
