An Act relative to sex offender registration.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1. Section 178E of chapter 6 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2014 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting after subsection (q) the following subsection:-

Subsection (r). All sex offenders, convicted or adjudicated of a sex offense, subsequent to the enactment of the Jacob Wetterling Crimes Against Children and Sexually Violent Offender Registration Act (the Wetterling Act), which has been designated a sexually violent offense or a sex offense against a child, requiring by operation of law a minimum of Level 1 life time registration for those convicted as adults and 20 year registration for those adjudicated as juveniles, to be required within 72 hours to register with the Sex Offender Registry Board as level 1 sex offenders, pending the exercise of their due process rights that the Sex Offender Registration Board is statutorily required to afford them prior to requiring them to register at their final registration level, Level 1, 2 or 3.
