An Act relative to the display of motor vehicle number plates.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

Section 1: Section 1 of Chapter 90 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2012 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting, before the definition of “Department”, the new definition:-

“Decorative Plate”, a plate not issued by the Registry of Motor Vehicles; that is not intended for and cannot be mistaken as legal identification.

Section 2: Section 6 of Chapter 90 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2012 Official Edition, is hereby amended, in line 6, by striking out the words “one number plate to be attached at the front and one at the rear of said motor vehicle” the following words “if the registrar issues two number plates one plate shall be attached to the rear of said motor vehicle, one plate may be attached to the front of said vehicle or may be returned by the owner to the registrar,”

Section 3: Section 6 of Chapter 90 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2012 Official Edition, is hereby amended, in line 9, by inserting after the word “visible.” the following sentence “Vehicles displaying one number plate at the rear of the vehicle and not displaying a number plate at the front of said vehicle may attach a decorative plate to the front of said vehicle.”
