An Act relative to lights for ambulances, fire apparatus and law enforcement vehicles.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

Section 7E of chapter 90 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2014 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting after the sixth paragraph the following paragraph:-

Notwithstanding the preceding paragraphs, a manufacturer or distributor of flashing, rotating or oscillating red or blue lights for use by fire apparatus, ambulances and law enforcement vehicles, may mount or display flashing, rotating or oscillating blue or red lights in any direction on a vehicle registered to such manufacturer or distributer and for which the manufacturer or distributer possesses a permit issued by the registrar for conducting sales demonstrations; provided, however, the manufacturer or distributer shall not demonstrate or engage in flashing, rotating or oscillating such lights except (i) at a location owned and operated by the manufacturer or distributer; (ii) on a specific date and location to be approved in writing by the chief of police of the city or town where a demonstration is to occur; (iii) in an enclosed area; or (iv) in the presence of a sworn police officer or other authorized employee of a law enforcement, fire or emergency response agency at their direction. The registrar may promulgate rules and regulations necessary to carry out the provisions of this paragraph.
