An Act to increase voter education and registration in public schools.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

Chapter 51 Section 42 C of the General Laws as appearing in chapter 51 is hereby amended by striking out, “in any city or town which accepts the provisions of this section” from the beginning. The first paragraph shall be amended by striking out, “private”. The paragraph: - Voter education shall include: how to register to vote, the process of voting including Help America Vote Act (HAVA) voter identification requirements, the use of absentee ballots, and the importance of voting as a Constitutional right.  The sentence: - “These sessions may be held by said individuals in private schools upon acceptance by any city or town and the private school” is added to the end of the first paragraph. The phrase: - ,upon the acceptance of that city or town, is added to the end of the sentence, "A registrar or assistant registrar at a session held pursuant to the provisions of this section may receive affidavits of registration from registrants who reside in any other city or town of the commonwealth". The last sentence is amended by striking out, "This section shall take effect upon its acceptance by any city or town".
