An Act relative to civics course curriculum.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
SECTION 2: Section 2 of Chapter 71 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2010 Official Edition, is amended, by inserting after section 2C, the creation of a new section, Section 2D, The following words:-
Notwithstanding any general or special law to the contrary, the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and the Executive Office of Education, in collaboration with a youth advisory committee, shall develop a new elective for a High School Labor Law and Workers' Rights course. The curriculum shall be developed no later than May 1, 2014. The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and the Executive Office of Education, in collaboration with a youth advisory committee, shall also develop a pilot program for the implementation of this elective course which shall begin no later than the beginning of the 2014-2015 academic school year. The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and the Executive Office of Education, in collaboration with a youth advisory committee, shall also develop a plan for full implementation of this labor law and workers' rights course as a high school elective to begin no later than the first day of the 2016-2017 academic school year.
