SECTION 1. Chapter 89 of the General Laws is hereby amended in Section 11 by striking out the second paragraph and adding the following:
No driver of a vehicle, bicycle, or moped shall pass any other vehicle which has stopped at a marked crosswalk to permit a pedestrian to cross, nor shall any such operator enter a marked crosswalk while a pedestrian is crossing or until there is a sufficient space beyond the crosswalk to accommodate the vehicle he is operating, notwithstanding that a traffic control signal may indicate that any such operator may proceed. If a traffic control signal indicates that a vehicle, bicycle, or moped cannot proceed, the driver shall remain at a complete stop until the traffic signal changes.
SECTION 2. Chapter 89 of the General Laws is hereby amended in Section 11 by striking out the third paragraph and adding the following:
Whoever violates any provision of this section shall be punished by a fine of not less than $500.
