An Act providing for designated parking for veterans at city and town halls.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

Chapter 40 of the General Laws is hereby amended by inserting after section 22A the following section:-

Section 22A½. (a) A city or town shall designate a parking space, for veterans only parking, at the city or town hall. The city or town shall erect and maintain a sign designating such space that includes the following words: “Veteran parking only – this space is reserved for those who have served”.

(b) A veteran displaying special license plates issued under section 2 of chapter 90, may park his or her passenger motor vehicle or motorcycle, without charge, in a veterans’ only designated parking space at any city or town hall parking lot.  This section does not authorize a vehicle displaying such special license plates to park in such space during time periods other than the normal business hours of the city or town hall.

(c) The penalty for a violation of this section shall be a fine of $100 and the city or town may remove the violating vehicle in accordance with section 22D. This penalty shall not be a surchargeable offense under section 113B of chapter 175.
