SECTION 1. Notwithstanding section 6D of chapter 29 of the General Laws, to create safer custodial inmate standards by establishing an emergency medical technician training program for correctional officers in the commonwealth administered by the Norfolk Sheriff’s department, the sum set forth in section 2 is hereby appropriated from the General Fund to the Norfolk Sheriff’s department.

SECTION 3. The Norfolk Sheriff’s department, hereinafter the department, in partnership with the office of emergency medical services, shall establish an emergency medical technician training pilot program for correctional officers in the commonwealth, through which the department shall partner with accredited EMT training institutions to coordinate training for correctional officers of the department. Correctional officers throughout the commonwealth may participate in the program and attend such training for EMT certification by submitting an application for participation to the department.
