An Act relative to the regulation of certain elections by the office of campaign and political finance.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1. Section 1 of chapter 55 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2014 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting after the word “office”, in line 11, the following words:- , or state committee, as provided in section 1 of chapter 52.

SECTION 2. Section 5 of chapter 268B of the General Laws, as so appearing, is hereby amended by striking out subsections (a) and (b) and inserting in place the following 2 subsections:-

(a) Every candidate for public office or state committee, as provided in section 1 of chapter 52, shall file a statement of financial interest for the preceding calendar year with the commission on or before the date on which a certificate of nomination or nomination papers for such candidate are submitted to the state secretary. Every candidate for public office or state committee, as provided in section 1 of chapter 52,  who has not filed nomination papers with the state secretary, but on whose behalf a statement of organization of a political committee has been filed with the director of campaign and political finance pursuant to section 5 of chapter 55, and who is seeking public office by the so-called “write in” or “sticker” method, shall within 3 days after such filing file a statement of financial interest with the commission.

(b) Every public official and state committee member shall file a statement of financial interest for the preceding calendar year with the commission on or before the last Tuesday in May of the year in which such public official or state committee member first enters such office and of each year that such public official or state committee member holds such office, and on or before May first of the year after such public official or state committee member leaves such office; provided, however, that no public official or state committee member shall be required to file a statement of financial interests for the year in which he ceased to be a public official or state committee member if he served for less than 30 days in such year.
