By Mr. Jones of North Reading, a petition (accompanied by bill, House, No. 3725) of Bradley H. Jones, Jr., Bruce E. Tarr and Theodore C. Speliotis (by vote of the town) that the town of Middleton be authorized to elect a moderator for a term of three years and change the annual town meeting day to the third Tuesday in May.  Election Laws.  [Local Approval Received.]

An Act relative to the Middleton town charter.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1. Section 5 of Chapter 2 of the charter of the town of Middleton, which is on file in the office of the archivist of the commonwealth as provided in section 12 of chapter 43B of the General Laws, is hereby amended by striking the first paragraph in its entirety and replacing it with the following:-             

2-5-1  A Moderator shall be elected for a three year term at the regular election of Town officials. He/she shall not hold any other office or accept Town employment during the term for which he/she is elected.

SECTION 2. Section 1 of Chapter 3 of the charter of the town of Middleton, which is on file in the office of the archivist of the commonwealth as provided in section 12 of chapter 43B of the General Laws, is hereby amended by striking the first paragraph in its entirety and replacing it with the following:-

3-1-1 The regular election for all Town offices shall be by official ballot held on the Tuesday following the second Tuesday in May of each year.

SECTION 3. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
