An Act relative to the selection of Lieutenant Governor.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1.  Section 43A of chapter 53 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2008 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting, in line 5, after the word “election” the following words:- and primary.

SECTION 2.  Said chapter 53, as so appearing, is hereby amended by inserting after section 6 the following section:-

Section 6A.  Candidates for governor qualified as a candidate in the state election shall designate a nominee for lieutenant governor within 7 days of nomination for the election by completing and filing a form proscribed by the state secretary.  In the event of death, withdrawal or ineligibility of a lieutenant governor nominee so designated shall be replaced with the designation of a new lieutenant governor nominee no later than 7 days after the vacancy by notifying the state secretary in writing.  In the event of death, withdrawal or ineligibility of a lieutenant governor-elect, the governor-elect shall designate within 7 days a lieutenant governor-elect by notifying the state secretary in writing.
