An Act relative to licensing and operating requirements of automobile inspection stations.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1. Section 7W of chapter 90 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2012 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting after the second paragraph the following paragraph:-

The registrar shall issue, upon request, a vehicle inspection station license, for the inspection of motor vehicles pursuant to section 7A, to any franchised car dealership that has invested $2,500,000 or more in the construction of a new dealership and service facility or the reconstruction or rehabilitation of an existing facility, if such franchised car dealership is properly equipped to conduct such inspections under the relevant regulations and possesses a Class 1 license pursuant to Section 58 of Chapter 140 of the General Laws; provided, that notwithstanding any other general or special law or regulation to the contrary, any licensee obtaining a vehicle inspection station license pursuant to this section shall be limited to the inspection of new and used motor vehicles for sale only.
