An Act authorizing the appointment of James Atkinson to the position of junior accountant of the police department of the city of Methuen.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION1. Notwithstanding section 2.5 of the charter of the city of Methuen, section 20 of chapter 268A of the General Laws, or any other general or special law to the contrary James Atkinson may, upon appointment by the mayor and approval of the city council and prior to the expiration of his term as city councilor for the city of Methuen on December 31, 2017, be appointed to the position of junior accountant of the police department of the city of Methuen and may continue to serve as junior accountant until he resigns, retires or is otherwise relieved of his duties.  If James Atkinson is appointed to and serving in the position of junior accountant for the police department of the city of Methuen while also serving as a city councilor for the city of Methuen, he shall only be compensated for his service in 1 such position; provided, however, that James Atkinson may choose for which position he shall receive compensation.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
