An Act amending Chapter 169 of the Act's of 1881 pertaining to the Charter of the City of Malden.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

Sentence 8 of Section 9 of Chapter 169 of the Acts of 1881 is hereby amended by striking “the first Monday in January, at ten o’clock in the forenoon,” and the following inserted in place thereof:

“on the first Monday of the New Year unless that Monday falls on a Holiday then the City Council will choose a new date to fall within eight (8) days of the New Year,”

Sentence 8 of Section 9 of Chapter 169 of the Acts of 1881 as amended will be further amended to read as follows:

Members Elect of the City Council and School Committee and when applicable The Mayor Elect shall on the first Monday of the New Year meet in convention, when the oath required by this act shall be administered to the members of those present, by the mayor, or by any justice of the peace; and a certificate of such oath having been taken shall be entered upon the journals of the respective boards, by their clerks; provided that in any year where the first Monday in January is a legal holiday the City Council may choose an alternate date to fall within the first eight (8) days of the New Year.
