An Act Concerning Health Insurance Benefits for Surviving Spouses of Firefighters in the City of Boston.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
Section 1. Notwithstanding the provisions of any general or special law, rule or regulation to the contrary, upon the death of an insured employee who was killed, or who died from injuries or illness received, in the performance of his or her duty as a firefighter in the city of Boston, his or her surviving spouse may continue the group hospital, surgical, medical, dental and other insurance for himself or herself and his or her dependents under age twenty-six; provided that application for such insurance is filed with the appropriate entity in the city of Boston and a method for the payment of premiums shall be determined in accordance with its rules and regulations; and provided, further, that the city of Boston shall contribute at least fifty percent of the premium to be paid by the surviving spouse for such group insurance.
Section 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.
