An Act relative to dentistry licensure examinations.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1. Chapter 112 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2014 Official Edition, is hereby amended by striking out section 47 and inserting in the place thereof the following section:-

Section 47. The examination may be written or oral or both, at the option of the board, and may include the principal subjects taught in reputable dental colleges. Demonstrations in operative and prosthetic dentistry, diagnosis and prognosis may be required. In lieu of practical examinations, the board shall allow applicants to demonstrate proof of having successfully completed not less than one year of graduate dental training as a resident dentist in a PGY-1 program or other program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation; provided, that at the end of such year of graduate dental training as a resident dentist, the supervising dentist provides documentation satisfactory to the board attesting to the resident dentist’s competency in all areas tested on the practical examination.

SECTION 2. Section 47 of Chapter 112 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2014 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting at the end of said section the following sentence:- “The examination shall not require the performance of any irreversible procedure upon a live patient.”
