An Act regulating the closure of state police barracks.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1. Chapter 6A of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2014 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting after section 18 ¾, the following section:-

Section 18 7/8. (a) The secretary of public safety and security shall provide notice to the general court of a closure of a state police barracks, in writing, not less than 120 days prior to the closure. The executive office of public safety and security shall conduct public hearings to be held in not less than 2 impacted communities before any such closure and shall file a report which shall include, but not be limited to:

(i) an examination of the public safety impact of closing a barracks on impacted communities;

(ii) a cost analysis of the closing including, but not limited to, the financial impact on impacted communities; and

(iii) a thorough appraisal of the building, land and structures on the property including, but not limited to, annual associated maintenance costs.

(b) The report shall be filed with the clerks of the senate and house of representatives not later than 60 days after notice of a closure is given and the clerks shall forward the report to the president of the senate, the speaker of the house of representatives and the members of the senate and house of representatives representing the impacted communities.
