An Act relative to temporary registration plates.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
SECTION 1. Section 2D of chapter 90 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2014 Official Edition, is hereby amended in the first paragraph by striking the first sentence and inserting in place thereof the following:-- The registrar is hereby authorized and directed to design, issue and regulate the use of temporary registration plates, including, but not limited to, for issuance to and usage by purchasers of motor vehicles who do not reside in the commonwealth and who will be transporting the vehicle to his or her state of residence for registration in that state.
SECTION 2. Said section 2D of said chapter 90, as so appearing, is hereby further amended, in line 3, by striking the word “may” and inserting in place thereof the word “shall”.
SECTION 3. Said section 2D of said chapter 90, as so appearing, is hereby further amended, in line 9, by striking the word “plates.” and inserting in place thereof the following:-- plates; provided, however, that such furnishing of satisfactory proof of a certificate pursuant to section thirty-four A shall not apply to a purchaser of a motor vehicle who resides outside the commonwealth and who will not register the purchased vehicle in the commonwealth.
