An Act relative to the membership of the licensing commission and board of election commissioners of the city of Somerville.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1. Section 2 of chapter 82 of the acts of 1928 is hereby amended by striking out the second sentence, inserted by section 47 of chapter 400 of the acts of 2012, and inserting in place thereof the following sentence:- The board shall consist of 4 persons who shall be appointed without regard to political affiliation.

SECTION 2. Section 3 of said chapter 82, as most recently amended by section 48 of chapter 400 of the acts of 2012, is hereby further amended by striking out the second sentence and inserting in place thereof the following sentence:- When a member’s term expires or there is a vacancy on the board, the mayor shall, subject to approval by the board of aldermen, appoint a successor without regard to political affiliation.

SECTION 3. Said chapter 82 is hereby further amended by striking out section 6, inserted by section 50 of chapter 400 of the acts of 2012, and inserting in place thereof the following section:-

Section 6. The mayor may appoint assistant election commissioners and such other assistants as the mayor deems necessary; provided, however, that such an appointment shall be made without regard to political affiliation.

SECTION 4. Chapter 190 of the acts of 1939 is hereby repealed.

SECTION 5. Notwithstanding any general or special law to the contrary, the licensing commission of the city of Somerville shall consist of 3 persons who shall be appointed without regard to political affiliation.

SECTION 6. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
