An Act relative to rest homes.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

Section 1.  Section 72 of chapter 111 of the General Laws is hereby amended by inserting the following:-

The department shall establish regulations for rest homes that are separate and distinct from those regulations governing nursing homes.  Such regulations should ensure requirements that are consistent with current care practices and reflect the unique needs of the population that reside in rest homes in contrast to those that reside in nursing homes.  Such regulations for rest homes shall allow for locks on the doors of resident rooms in order to ensure resident privacy.

Section 2.  In developing proposed regulations for rest homes, the Department shall consult with LeadingAge Massachusetts and the Massachusetts Association of Residential Care Homes (MARCH).
