An Act providing for coverage of necessary aqua therapy.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

Chapter 175 of the General Laws is hereby amended by inserting after section 47II the following section:-

Section 47JJ.  Coverage for necessary aqua therapy

Any individual policy of accident or sickness insurance issued, delivered or renewed within the commonwealth pursuant to section 108 of this chapter, and any group blanket policy of accident or sickness insurance issued, delivered or renewed within the commonwealth pursuant to section 110 of this chapter, shall cover, without preauthorization, medically necessary aqua therapy provided by a licensed aqua therapist. 

Medical necessity shall be determined by the treating clinician in consultation with the patient and noted in the patient’s medical record.
