An Act to allow lane splitting in the Commonwealth.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1: Notwithstanding other laws relating to the safe operation of a vehicle, Section 4A of chapter 89 of the General Laws, as so appearing in the 2015 Official Edition, is hereby amended by striking out the first paragraph and inserting in place thereof, the following paragraph:-

(4a) “A motorcycle, as defined in section 1 of Chapter 90, that has two wheels in contact with the ground may be driven between rows of stopped or moving vehicles in the same lane, including both divided and undivided streets, roads, or highways, if both of the following conditions are present:

a.The motorcycle is not driven at speed of more than 50 miles per hour.

b.The motorcycle is not driven more than 15 miles per hour faster than the speed of the traffic moving in the same direction.
