SECTION 1. Chapter 112 is hereby amended by inserting after section 87DD the following new section: -
Section 87DDD. The board shall provide a sign, to be reviewed and approved by the Attorney General, to all persons owning a hair salon or cosmetology school. The sign shall contain the following notice in English, Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Portuguese: “WARNING: Obtaining forced labor or services are a crime under Massachusetts law. If you or someone you know is being forced to engage in any activity and cannot leave – whether it is commercial sex, housework, farm work or any other activity – call the national human trafficking hotline: 1-888-373-7888. You may remain anonymous, and the hotline is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.” Said sign must be placed in a clear and visible location to the employees and the public.
The sign must be at least eight and one half inches high and eleven inches wide and displayed in a conspicuous manner clearly visible to the public and employees of the permit or license holder. The English notice must cover approximately half of the sign, and one or more languages must cover approximately the remaining half of the sign.
A Department of Licensure enforcement officer shall notify in writing, any business or establishment that it has failed to comply with this law. Failure to correct the violation within 30 days from the date of receipt of notice may result in a civil penalty consistent with section 87FF.
