SECTION 1. Chapter 268B of the General Laws is hereby amended by inserting after section 5 the following section:-
Section 5A. A public employee as defined in section 1 shall be domiciled in the commonwealth within 180 days of the commencement of his or her employment; provided, that the employee’s appointing authority may grant a one-time extension of an additional 180 days at the appointing authority’s discretion.
No public employee shall continue in their duties or receive compensation from public funds unless they are domiciled in the commonwealth as required by this section.
SECTION 2. A current public employee as defined in section 1 of chapter 268B of the General Laws shall be domiciled in the commonwealth within 180 days of the effective date of this act; provided, that the employee’s appointing authority may grant a one-time extension of an additional 180 days at the appointing authority’s discretion.
