An Act requiring legislative approval of natural gas compressor stations.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1: The general court shall have the power to oversee and approve the sighting and licensing of any natural gas compressor stations within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

SECTION 2: The Department of Environmental Protection, Department of Public Utilities, and any other agency of the Commonwealth responsible for issuing permits for the construction of a natural gas compressor station shall not do so unless these permits are approved and enacted by a two thirds vote, taken by the yeas and nays, of each branch of the general court. The legislation to approve the permits and construction of a natural gas compressor station must be sponsored and approved by a member(s) of the general court.

SECTION 3: Any permits issued prior to the enactment of this legislation shall be deemed invalid, and must be submitted before the legislature for approval by a two thirds vote, taken by the yeas and nays, of each branch of the general court.
