An Act relative to school bus video monitoring systems.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1. Chapter 90 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2016 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting after section 7B, the following new section:—

Section 7B ½. (a) School districts may install and operate live digital video school bus violation detection monitoring systems for the purposes of detecting violations of section 14 of this chapter. All systems installed for use under this section must, at a minimum, produce a live visual image viewable remotely, a recorded image of the license plate, and be able to record the time, date, and location of the vehicle.

(b) School districts may enter into agreements with private corporations or other entities to provide live digital video school bus violation detection monitoring systems and to maintain and operate such systems.

(c) All vehicles installed with a live digital video school bus violation detection monitoring system shall post a warning sign indicating the use of such system.

SECTION 2. Section 14 of chapter 90 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2016 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting after the words, “reinstate his license or right to operate.”, the following:—

Video from a live digital video school bus violation detection monitoring system authorized by section 7B ½ may be used as evidence of a school bus violation under this section.
