By Mr. Mark of Peru, a petition (accompanied by bill, House, No. 3079) of Paul W. Mark and others that the Registrar of Motor Vehicles issue distinctive registration plates for certain firefighters and  surviving spouses of firefighters killed in the line of duty.  Transportation.

An Act providing for a distinctive registration plate for firefighters.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1 - Section 2 of chapter 90 of the General Laws is hereby amended by adding the following paragraph:-

                 The registrar shall furnish, upon application, to owners of private passenger motor vehicles who are members in good standing of a fire department, or on-call or volunteer emergency medical technicians or paramedics who serve a municipal ambulance, fire department, or non-profit or volunteer ambulance company within the Commonwealth of the Massachusetts or to the surviving spouse of a firefighter killed in the line of duty, a distinctive registration plate which shall display on their face a design indicating their status as firefighters. No such plate shall be issued or renewed until proper certification has been made to the registrar by the chief of the fire department in which the applicant serves. There shall be a $10 fee for the plate in addition to the established registration fee for passenger motor vehicles which shall be transferred to the Massachusetts Firefighters Academy Trust Fund established under section 165A of chapter 6.
