An Act relative to section 1E of Chapter 90.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1.  Section 1E of chapter 90 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2016 Official Edition, is hereby amended by adding at the end of the first paragraph the following paragraphs:-

Motorized scooters shall not be ridden on sidewalks (i) except when necessary in the interest of safety, or (ii) unless otherwise directed by local ordinance; provided, that a person operating a motorized scooter on the sidewalk shall yield the right of way to pedestrians and give an audible signal before overtaking and passing any pedestrian. 

For the purposes of, without limitation, sections 13B, 24, 24½, 24D, 24E, 24G, 24L, and 24N  of chapter 90, a motorized scooter shall be deemed to be a motor vehicle.
