An Act ensuring school bus safety.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1. Section 7B of Chapter 90 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2016 Official Edition is hereby amended by adding the following 2 paragraphs:-

No person shall operate a school bus, unless the school bus is equipped with a functioning panic button that will allow operators to discreetly contact fire, police or medical personnel in an emergency situation.

All school bus operators, in conjunction with applicable school districts and public safety officials shall formulate critical incident response protocols for incidents, including but not limited to protocols for active shooters and other critical incidents occurring while pupils are in-transit. Said protocols shall be reviewed with pupils on a yearly basis.

SECTION 2. Section 8A of said chapter 90, as so appearing, is hereby amended by inserting after the word “injector”, in line46, the following words:- and basic emergency response protocols required pursuant to section 7B.
