By Representative Donato of Medford and Senator Jehlen, a joint petition (accompanied by bill, House, No. 4082) of Paul J. Donato, Patricia D. Jehlen and others (with the approval of the mayor and city council) that the city of Medford be authorized to exempt labor service positions of the department of public works, in said city, from the civil service law.  Public Service.  [Local Approval Received.]

An Act exempting the labor service positions of the department of public works in the city of Medford from the civil service laws.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1. Notwithstanding any general or special law to the contrary, the City of Medford shall not be required to utilize the labor service list when hiring persons for positions of the Department of Public Works of the City of Medford per Chapter

31 of the General Laws.

SECTION 2. Section 1 shall not impair or effect the applicability of all other provisions of Chapter 31 of the General Laws to persons holding positions within the labor service of the Department of Public Works in the City of Medford who may be hired on and after the effective date of this act.

SECTION 3. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
