By Messrs. Murray of Milford and Soter of Bellingham, a petition (subject to Joint Rule 12) of Brian W. Murray, Michael J. Soter and others for legislation to establish a medal of loyalty for the next of kin of certain service members who died in service while in the line of duty or who died as a result of wounds received in service while in the line of duty.  Veterans and Federal Affairs.

An Act creating a medal of loyalty for families of veterans.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

Chapter 33 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2018 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting after section 67A the following section:-

Section 67B. There shall be a medal of loyalty, which shall be awarded to the next of kin of service men and women from the commonwealth who died in service while in the line of duty or who died as a result of wounds received in service while in the line of duty, but not necessarily while in combat, in a war zone or as a result of action of an enemy. The adjutant general and 2 field grade officers of the armed forces of the commonwealth detailed by the commander-in-chief shall constitute a commission to make recommendations to the commander-in-chief for the awarding of the medal of loyalty.
