An Act providing for diabetes management in schools.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
The last paragraph of section 54B of chapter 71 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2018 official edition, is hereby amended by adding the following 2 sentences:- In the case of a student who is unable to self-administer a glucose monitoring test or insulin delivery system pursuant to department of public health regulations, a school nurse or school physician may delegate authority to administer the test or system to other school personnel or a responsible adult in a manner consistent with department of public health regulations regarding a school nurse’s administration of prescription medication. Glucose monitoring tests and insulin delivery systems may be administered in a classroom if a school nurse or school physician, in consultation with the relevant teacher, deems the administration appropriate.
