By Representative Lipper-Garabedian of Melrose and Senator Lewis, a joint petition (accompanied by bill, House, No. 4725) of Kate Lipper-Garabedian and Jason M. Lewis (with the approval of the mayor and city council) that the city of Melrose be authorized to convert up to three licenses for the sale of wine and malt beverages to be drunk off the premises to licenses for the sale of all alcoholic beverages to be drunk off the premises. Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure. [Local Approval Received.] |

An Act authorizing the city of Melrose to convert certain liquor licenses for the sale of all alcoholic beverages for off premises consumption.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
SECTION 1. (a)Notwithstanding section 11 of chapter 138 of the General Laws, section 1 of chapter 327 of the acts of 2008 relative to the granting of licenses for the sale of wine and malt beverages to be drunk off the premises or any other general or special law to the contrary, the licensing authority of the city of Melrose may convert up to 3 licenses for the sale of wine and malt beverages to be drunk off the premises, under section 15 of said chapter 138, which licenses were authorized by chapter 327 of the acts of 2008, to licenses for the sale of all alcoholic beverages to be drunk off the premises under said section 15 of said chapter 138.
(b) In the event a license converted under this section is cancelled, revoked or is no longer in use, it shall be returned physically, with all of the legal rights, privileges and restrictions pertaining thereto, to the licensing authority and the licensing authority.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
