An Act limiting campaign contributions of non-natural persons.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
SECTION 1. Section 1 of chapter 55 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2012 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting after the word “voters” in line 130 to 131, inclusive, the following words:- ; provided, however, that the term political committee shall not include a labor union.
SECTION 2. Section 7A of said chapter 55, as so appearing, is hereby amended by adding the following subsection:-
(d) Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary and if not otherwise limited or prohibited from making contributions under this chapter whereby the aggregate of contributions does not exceed $1,000 in a calendar year, the aggregate of all contributions by any business, corporation, professional corporation, partnership, limited liability company, limited liability partnership, group, association, labor union, or other entity, and no officer or agent acting on behalf of any entity mentioned in this section other than an individual citizen of the United States, for the benefit of any one candidate and such candidate's committee, shall not exceed $1,000 in a calendar year. If not otherwise limited or prohibited from making contributions under this chapter, the aggregate of all contributions by any business, corporation, professional corporation, partnership, limited liability company, limited liability partnership, group, association, labor union, or other entity, and no officer or agent acting on behalf of any entity mentioned in this section other than an individual citizen of the United States, for the benefit of any other political committee, other than a ballot question committee, shall not exceed $1,000 in a calendar year.
