An Act relative to accessibility and preservation of write in voting records.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

Chapter 54 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2006 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting after section 111, the following section:-

Section 111A. The city or town clerk shall maintain the count of all votes cast in all elections for all candidates including the names and tally of recipients of write-in votes; provided, that the clerk shall retain such record consistent with the requirements of this chapter. The names of recipients of write-in votes shall be available upon request. The clerk shall furnish a copy of said names to the person making the request on payment of a reasonable fee or shall allow such person to examine and copy said names without charge under such supervision as the clerk may reasonably require.
