By Mr. Moran of Boston, a petition (accompanied by bill, House, No. 694) of Michael J. Moran and others for legislation to further regulate auditing biennial state elections, state primary preceding biennial state elections, presidential primaries, or special general elections for Senator in Congress or Representative in Congress.  Election Laws.

An Act to promote election audits.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1. Section 109A of chapter 54 is hereby amended by striking the first sentence of subsection (b) and inserting therefore:--

(b) An audit shall be conducted pursuant to this section following any  biennial state election, state primary preceding a biennial state election, presidential primary, or special general election for senator in congress or representative in congress.

SECTION 2. Section 109A of chapter 54 is hereby further amended by inserting the following new subsection:--

(k) Any city or town of the Commonwealth may, at its discretion, conduct an audit similar to that prescribed by this section following  regulations prescribed by the state secretary.
